Berlin resembles a germinating onion. Dried out skin where wars and demolition raged. Foul spots where investment failed. Lots of internal buds that represent some parts of the city. And not to forget all the green shoots like Start Ups and cultural institutions that turned Berlin into one of the most popular cities in the world. For a book project on urban spaces I created a twin book with a map of the city. It is an architectural guide that follows a route from north to south. The two-tier book symbolizes the city of Berlin that had been divided for so many years even though it had always meant to be one. The streets of the former eastern sector of the city can be found in the “North” book, the streets of the western sector can be found in the “South” book.
